Hot damn, an old friend of mine from when I studied abroad was the film editor on District 9, and he just got nominated for an Oscar for his editing!!!
I told him to steal me somebody's goody bag.

Nice, congrats to him. I loved that movie and its play on apartheid.
Cool! District 9 is one of my favourite films of recent years, and one my favourite sci-fi films of all time.
I know lots of people in the movie industry, but most of them don't even get their names in the credits, let alone the Oscar nominations! Although I did once go to a party where the host had his Emmy on the mantelpiece (he was the head of sound for the X-Files and also had signed posters and props everywhere, including the original "Fox Mulder" desk sign in pride of place on his own desk).
I also met someone in a bar once who had an Oscar statuette tattooed on his inner arm "to remind me of my ambitions". He was an eejit though.
